Sadness in the Ringette Family

October 21, 2016

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we inform you of the tragedy that occurred earlier this week.  On Tuesday October 18, members of our ringette family, Shaun Bomford, Meghan Bomford and Kelsey Nelson were involved in a devastating motor vehicle accident that took Meghan’s life.  Shaun, Meghan’s father, and Kelsey, her teammate, are in hospital.

We ask that you join us in sending out the deepest of condolences to Meghan’s family, and that you keep Shaun and Kelsey in your thoughts as they fight to regain their health.

The Ringette Alberta office has already been fielding inquiries from individuals throughout the province who are looking for ways to help.  Though it saddens us when it happens, we are so proud of our community and how we come together as one during times like these.

At this point in time,  we are directing people to the websites of both the Calgary NW Ringette and Cal-East Ringette Associations, as they have been working together to set up ways to provide support.  There is also information posted for those who are in need of grief counseling.

This weekend, we encourage you to consider having a moment of silence before your games.  Please use this moment to not only think of the Meghan, Kelsey and Shaun, but also the girls’ U19A teammates, their families and friends, and everyone else who has been impacted by this terrible event.

Meghan‘s funeral will be held on Monday October 24th at 2 pm at the Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre St N, in Calgary.  Please see the Cal-East website for more details.

Parents, we urge you to hug your children a bit tighter today. Coaches, remind your players how proud of them you are.  Players, let your teammates know how much you appreciate them.  Let’s all honour Meghan’s life by taking the time to remember just how precious our time together really is.
